For the Paintedspires Stargate:Atlantis art challenge. My Prompt was: Noir AU - The Team as a noir detective story: Teyla in Burberry and fedora, John as homme fatale, Rodney as Detective Teyla's sidekick, Ronon as the innocent suspect. Teyla, John, Rodney, Ronon. Add others as needed: (I added Defence Attorney Elizabeth to the roster)
Since the prompt subverted the traditional Detective Noir sexual roles, I decided to continue the theme into the realm of Noir style book covers. Yes, there are deliberate hints of gay subtext in several of these. What is the point of subverting the genre if you can't play around with it some?
I will post the banner next - it is just the character portraits (and therefore entirely subtext free )
The original images are larger, and I did indeed do the other 2 combinations, but I wanted to keep the size of this combined image manageable.
Some of the book titles and taglines are from old pulp detective novels, and some have been made up to match the style. I love the language. Thanks to ~talietha for the suggestions.
God! I just LOVE your art! I wish I could actually make a realistic original painting with these characters (or any other for that matter) These are always so amazing, and you always capture their personalities perfectly! An absolutely AMAZING job!

I still think you need Police Officer Carson, from Scotland Yard or something, ahahahahaha. Still, it's such a clever idea and so well executed. I bet so much that someone is going to write fanfic with these titles/prompts.
Thank you! I love Realism (though sometime I'd like to try some other styles, just to see). I'm lucky to be able to capture expressions as well as likenesses, but even so I had to scrap several versions of John for this project, which were crappy likenesses or completely without expression - or both

Thank you, I thought of book covers when I saw the prompt - though originally I was intending only do 2 or 3

And it's very clever use of the prompt. I wish Blake's 7 fandom was currently so creative. Sigh.
Thank you for the watch - I appreciate it!
